What is Bluehost?

Bluehost is one of the internet’s most popular web hosting services. It was founded in 2003 by Matt Heaton and Danny Ashworth. In the year In 2012, it was acquired by conglomerate Endurance International (now called New Fold Digital).

Today, Bluehost hosts more than 2 million websites and employs more than 750 people with offices in Orem, Utah.

In this Bluehost review, I’ll cover their pricing and customer support and break down the following hosting services:

Domain name registration

Shared hosting

WordPress hosting

VPS hosting

Website builder

Bluehost price

Bluehost offers a wide range of hosting plans, perfect for the small business owner or beginner blogger. Here is a summary of each.
Bluehost web hosting

Bluehost hosting plans (Bluehost shared hosting) are the bread and butter of the hosting world. A shared plan includes individual accounts on a Linux server. Shared hosting packages are often powerful enough for beginners to run moderately visited websites.

You can run WordPress or any application on a LAMP Stack, a cost-effective and reliable way to run multiple websites. Bluehost has three main shared hosting plan options (learn more about shared hosting in this guide).

  • Monthly price for a 12-month subscription
    Key features

Free domain (1 year)*

Free SSL certificate included.

Free site migration

Free domain privacy for Choice Plus plan or higher

Live chat

24/7 customer support

Free domain names are an integral part of Bluehost’s promotional offer.

If you’re just starting out, their web hosting plans above should be more than enough.

If you have more than 50,000 visitors per month or you need to install a lot of WordPress plugins, I suggest upgrading to Bluehost WordPress plans.

Bluehost managed WordPress hosting gives your website a lot more CPU power. Daily backups of your WordPress blog are also another great reason to upgrade.
Bluehost WordPress hosting

Although WordPress can work on shared hosting, many hosting companies have WordPress hosting plans due to the hardware requirements of WordPress. Although many hosting companies claim to offer “WordPress hosting”, it is exactly the same as their shared hosting plans. Bluehost’s WordPress sites are not designed this way.

That’s why I consider BlueHost one of the best WordPress hosting services out there. If you’re just starting out, it’s hard to go wrong with Bluehost. Remember that as your website grows, your needs will change and you may need to get a more advanced WordPress host.

Bluehost has recommended since 2005 because of its custom features, plans, and resources for running a large or rapidly growing WordPress-powered website.

  • Monthly price for a 36-month subscription
    Bluehost VPS hosting

A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a great way to get dedicated server resources without having to rent a dedicated server.

Even though your website resides on the same server as other websites, you have full control over the amount of resources allocated. Bluehost has several competitively priced VPS hosting plans that offer managed and unmanaged options. Learn more about VPS hosting in this guide.
Bluehost Dedicated Hosting

Many don’t know that Bluehost offers dedicated website hosting, with no less than three dedicated hosting options. Pricing ranges from $79.99 – $119.99 per month for the first year. All dedicated plans come with WHM, so it’s no different than their shared hosting plans.

Just like their other services, you get a free domain name with every plan.

It is important to note that Bluehost servers are unmanaged. This means that you must maintain and protect the software and security yourself, or hire a company to manage it on your behalf.

The downside of any dedicated hosting service is the lack of redundancy if the hardware fails. Finally, dedicated hosting is not exclusive to Bluehost, so I recommend considering other dedicated providers before making a decision.
Bluehost options

BlueHost is far from the only web hosting game in town. There are many other providers, and I’ve reviewed several of the most popular ones (links below). Find out how they compare to Bluehost and which ones I rank as the best.
Benefits of Bluehost

No hosting company is perfect. And as I said in the introduction, I’ve always maintained that there is no such thing as a “best hosting company” – it depends on your goals and preferences.

With that in mind, here’s a list of Bluehost benefits.
The power of a big brand

Bluehost is a very large web hosting company.

It is owned by New Fold Digital – the world’s largest hosting corporation. And it’s got more brand recognition than GoDaddy, Wix or Squarespace.

Being a big brand has its problems, which I’ll cover later, but it also has many benefits.

  1. You can access resources that small hosting companies cannot. BlueHost can hire the best network engineers, customer support team leaders, and top executive teams in the industry.
  2. They may prioritize growing market share (delighting customers) over short-term revenue. While Bluehost focuses on building Net promoter scoreThe customer wins!
  3. Big brands don’t rise and fall overnight. It is important to know that your hosting company will not suddenly go out of business. Bluehost has the stability to make sure that doesn’t happen.
    They have great value.

As I’ve mentioned in other hosting reviews, pricing is important, but you have to consider the price in context.

BlueHost’s pricing is affordable and reasonable – especially for small to medium-sized websites looking for a good hosting option.

They have a 4-tier pricing structure. Their lowest plan is especially affordable for beginner websites, but I’ll cover them in the downside section.
